Folk Divination

guided charm readings

Just like any divinatory practice, charm readings offer a snapshot of the energies at play in any given moment. Discussing this snapshot leads to insight that can provide clarity on specific questions or situations, assist with decision making, or confirm intuition.

The tactile and visceral nature of the act of casting (or throwing) charms always gives me a thrill. How the charms land represents the energetic web connecting different aspects of the subjects’ personal experience and history. Knowing which of these key elements are at play and how they interact increases awareness of conscious and sub-conscious facets of the situation or issue at hand.

When doing a reading, I translate the relative positions and actions of the charms into a discernable and flowing story. As a folk practice, this form of divination may appeal in particular to those who have a harder time approaching certain paradigms that underpin meaning in other divinatory practices.

Meet some of the Charms

  • Personal history

What brought you to this point? How deep does this go? How does this fit into your concepts of self? This is a pendant given to me by my mother.

  • Boundaries

Where do you require boundaries? Where might strong boundaries need to be flexible for your best interest? What needs protecting? This tiny pencil came from a school teacher’s shirt pin

  • Focus

Is your head in the clouds? What are you paying attention to? What might be distracting you or monopolizing your time? This small bell came from my beloved cat’s collar
